Memorial Weekend at the Lakehouse

Out to the lake again this weekend, to swim with the alligators.  (Only sort of kidding.)  Swimming, jet skiing, blueberry picking, and hammock sitting.  Ahhhh...

Eleanor fell asleep on one of our sunset boat rides.

Class Party

It's coming up on the end of the school year for Texas kids.  Field day, parties, plays... it's a lot of fun around here right now.  This morning, Ms. Avant ran a slide show and presented awards to each kid in the class.  Here is Eleanor's:
No doubt about that!

Woah! That's some revisionist history!

I was behind, but now I am not!  If you're reading this, you should know that I put up 8 posts today.  I know that's not how this is supposed to work, but it is what it is.  Posts from April 9 - May 25 all happened today, so get caught up... I did!

Day Trip - LBJ Ranch

Well, I found my dream home this weekend, out at the ranch.  No wonder LBJ preferred to be President from here.  There was an ex-school teacher turned park ranger handling tours while we were there.  He swore in Eleanor for her Junior Park Ranger badge and then later, at the end of the day, he invited her to learn how to fold the flag with him.

Aunt Amy comes to visit

This was a busy weekend!  After arriving back in Austin from our flight to Llano for BBQ, my sister Amy arrived.  We took a small but beautiful hike here in town at the Wild Basin Preserve, went swimming, watched the bats emerge from under the bridge downtown, and generally just messed around.

Day Trip - Coopers in Llano, by Plane

As many of you know, my brother has his private pilot's license.  If you know him, then you also know he loves good meat.  These two passions came together for this weekend's outing.  John flew down to Austin, picked us up, and flew us out to Llano, Texas, for Cooper's legendary Barbeque.  This did not suck.

Eleanor's Violin Recital

Coming to Austin meant finding a new violin teacher for Eleanor, which was no small feat.  After a fitful start with a teacher that just wasn't a good match for us, then going it alone for all of about one day, we LUCKED into a position with what has to be one of Austin's loveliest violin teachers.  As if that wasn't enough good fortune, this teacher also has a group class we joined.  The group class, and all of this teacher's students performed at the farmer's market in "the triangle" this week.  Afterwards, we ate an Italian dinner with the other families, at which I drank too much and laughed just enough.
